Easter Island Moai, at Sunset

28/05/07 - Easter Island

An Ahu at Anakena, one of Easter Island's two beaches
Just along the shore is one of biggest Moai ever installed, now face down in the mud
And nearby, this is supposed to be the Navel of the World (again)

29/05/07 - Easter Island

Tongariki - the longest ahu, with most Moai and most worldwide TV coverage
The only real rule here is not to touch the Moai, which kinda rules out a lot of photo opportunities
... ah well. We can imagine what they would've looked like
The horses are just there for added dramatic impact - one of Milla's photos
A lot of Moai just hang out at the quarry, Rano Raraku
They DO look as if they've been suddenly frozen on the way back from the pub
Some have obviously had too much to drink

30/05/07 - Easter Island

31/05/07 - Easter Island

Today, I'm up at dawn ... to photograph the Moai
Next stop the Catholic church, for some typically Christian iconography
And then Ahu Akivi, pretty much the only ahu we haven't seen yet
More fallen heads (this one's just a face) back at the coast

01/06/07 - Easter Island

02/06/07 - En Route

Finally, we get to leave - the airport is both small and pretty casual
Just about time for one last photo ...

03/06/07 - Lima

We got into Lima around two in the morning - this is the inside of the hotel we found
The centre of Lima is the Plaza de Armas - which turns out to be normal for Peruvian towns and cities
