Striking west towards Mumbai

  • 23/01/07 - Bodhgaya
  • 24/01/07 - En Route & Varanasi
  • 25/01/07 - Sarnath
  • 26/01/07 - Varanasi
  • 27/01/07 - En Route
  • 28/01/07 - Khajuraho
The Buddhist mafia, in a crowded autorickshaw

22/01/07 - Kolkata

The GPO in Kolkata, where we spent much of our last day there and which is approximately where the Black Hole used to stand...

23/01/07 - Bodhgaya

The massive Buddhist temple which (roughly) marks where Gautama was enlightened
We weren't the only visitors that day
Bizarrely gigantic cow which we found down an alley
One of many Buddhist Temples in town
Ha-ha!

24/01/07 - En Route & Varanasi

Religious dancing (just for the tourists, I'm sure) on the shore of the Ganges

25/01/07 - Sarnath

Cor, look at the size of that stupa - marking Buddha's first sermon, which he made to deer (on account of there being no Buddhists yet)
Descendents of the afore-mentioned deer
Just missed a historic moment - couldn't be bothered waiting for the moment of enlightenment

26/01/07 - Varanasi

Out on the Ganges at Varanasi
And yes, of course they were burning bodies
Milla's serene about the whole thing
And just downstream from the bodies, people are washing clothes and themselves in the same water

27/01/07 - En Route

A late, and small, temple at Khajuraho at sunset
And another - these are really cool, and justifiably famous
Some late night shopping, in small-town India

28/01/07 - Khajuraho

Now we're talking - the real deal
Ganesha swinging to those medieval grooves
And yes, that man's doing exactly what you think to that horse - and his friend's enjoying the view
More temples
